At the end of March 2006 Michael took a recording enginner to Kampala, Uganda, to produce a CD of the community singers in a project he supports - BeadforLife. The women in the choir are refugees from the northern war and have been barely surviving in the poverty of Kampala's slums. Through their beadwork, and the US market created by BeadforLife, 250 families are now earning a solid living and rebuilding their lives.

Michael and Anthony Maki spent two weeks in practice recording, and then brought the choir to the National Theatre to record the CD. The Beaders wrote their own songs telling their story and also performed some traditional material. The sessions were recorded with state of the art equipment.

The final CD will be ready for release in late Summer 2006

We came, we listened, we got blown away....

A soloist sings:
"We dance while we're struggling,
on the hill of Acholi Quarter"

While in Kampala, Michael performed at the Blue Mango as a guest of Master Kora player Kinobi Herbert . Further collaboration is a certainty!
